Raman Sood at 69, completed three passes, Kala Pathher, Everest Base Camp Trek in October 2021. With a dream to climb Mount Everest some day , Raman gradually increased his stamina to scale 6111 meter high Yunam Peak. Here is another inspiring tale of his adventurous journey in his own words.

A friend and I decided on a trip to Nepal and little that I realised, I found the missing part of the puzzle. I came back to India but left a piece of me back in the Himalayas. Chaitanya, my husband, advised me to get up a little closer to my new found love and to attempt a trek to the Himalayas. Now my life can be chaptered between treks. Annapurna Circuit trek (Nepal), Kilimanjaro (Africa), back to the very popular Everest Base camp (Nepal) made my admiration and LOVE for Himalayas and mountains just grow.

I have an exciting story to share about my second summit out of the seven summits of the world: Mount Kilimanjaro(5,895 m). You Are Stronger Than You Think...... Mountains taught me many things but most importantly humility, being fearless, gratitude for everything I have & valuing self strength.

As a beginner who didn’t know the ABC of mountaineering, I chose to summit on Mt Friendship Peak. I had no idea of the terrain and no exposure to any previous mountaineering training but my determination and attitude of ‘I can do it’ made me confident. If it wouldn’t have Boots and Crampons and Romil/Bharath, I couldn’t have made it. Another family I would like to mention here is from my professional life i.e. my organization Boston Scientific and my family.

I am writing this to share my adventure with you so that if anyone else decides to follow this path can do so without batting an eyelid. The trek is actually an acclimatation route for all those who have dreams of scaling the mighty Sagarmatha and being branded as an Éverester’ for life. However just to reach the base of the formidable Mt Everest can be construed as an achievement in itself. A 14-day round trek, with an average of 10 hours on foot daily, oxygen deprivation at every meter gained, symptoms of acute mountain sickness and the cherry on the cake- no bath at the end of the day isn’t exactly one’s idea of a recreational vacation.
